(Cardinal's family portrait is gonna be done in two parts since he's never known his dad. The first part is this lil' pic of his parents from around the late seventies, and the second part will be him and his mom currently.)

If there's one thing that Robin Owens has, it's faith. Nevermind her endless compassion or quick wit--it's in fact her boundless faith that defines her.

Robin and Jay were smitten the instant they laid eyes on each other. She worked as an interpreter for the hearing impaired at large events and venues, while he was a pilot who'd been around the world and back. They were completely fascinated by each other; Jay found Robin's unmatched mind and beauty captivating, and Robin was enchanted by Jay's selflessness. The love birds were inseparable.

Well... not COMPLETELY inseparable.

Shortly after they married, Jay's absences increased. His job, which usually required flying very important people to very important places, would sometimes have him gone for weeks on end. Jay was like Robin's bird, flying off to have adventures without her, but he promised before every trip he'd return safe in her arms. They wrote to each other constantly. Each letter Robin received ended with "I miss you ten times more than the day before. I love you. Jay." And Jay never failed to keep his promise; no matter what, he'd walk through their apartment doors and rush into his wife's arms the minute he was home.

In the summer of 1990, Robin and Jay learned that--after several failed attempts--they were finally going to have a baby. The news was overwhelming; all they had dreamed of for years was having a little baby bird of their own: Cardinal. However, Jay had a quick trip just before the baby was due. He promised he'd make it home in time, just like always.

But this time... wasn't just like always.
